Missions Update
A couple of weeks ago, we were pleased to welcome Darlene Billings, Janice Brewer, Kate Clark and Betsy & Lori McGuigan, to our church. They spoke about their recent Medical Mission Trip to Dominican Republic which was organized by Bob and Sandra Allaby of Saint John. The group left on November 6 with 15 suitcases in tow! Their purpose was to demonstrate God’s love in a very practical way. They took with them six boxes full of medications. Working along side nurses and doctors native to Dominican Republic, they held medical clinics in churches in the outlying areas where much medical attention is needed. They visited some very poor areas. One place they visited is where many orphans live all together. These children have little clothing and little food. They live together in order to feel some sense of security and to care for one another. It was evident both in the way these ladies spoke and in what they said, they are very passionate about this mission work they are able to do.

Let’s pray they will be encouraged and enabled to keep up this good work for the Lord in his harvest field, demonstrating His great love for the poor ones who greatly need His touch.

The Backyard Club Update – by Pam Gilbert.
The Backyard Club is currently studying a unit entitled, “The Beginning of a Nation”. Deborah: A Prophetess of Honour,
Gideon: A Mighty Warrior, Saul: A Reluctant King and Samuel: A Faithful Servant, are the main characters. We cover one lesson over two weeks to make the best use of the materials.

January 30th and February 6th have been our weeks to learn about Gideon. When asked if they remembered the story of Gideon from VBS a couple of years ago, as a group they remembered all the main points.

Welcome to Jade Hong who has recently joined our Sunday School class to co-teach. She has been a positive addition!

TAKE A MINUTE!… to read this excerpt from My Utmost for His Highest, by Oswald Chambers

“He went out, not knowing whither he went.” Hebrews 11:8 In the Old Testament, personal relationship with God showed
itself in separation, and this is symbolized in the life of Abraham by his separation from his country and from his kith and kin. Today the separation is more of a mental and moral separation from the way that those who are dearest to us look at things, that is, if they have not a personal relationship with God. Jesus Christ emphasized this (Luke 14:26).Faith never knows where it is being led, but it loves and knows the One Who is leading. It is a life of Faith, not of intellect and reason, but a life of knowing Who makes us “go.” The root of faith is the knowledge of a Person.
A MINUTE WELL SPENT!

To make plans, we need to know (1.) if you’re interested, (2.) whether you would prefer traditional Chinese food (spicy chicken, duck, meatballs, fish, etc.) or Canadian Chinese food (garlic ribs, sweet and sour chicken, wonton soup, beef and broccoli, etc.), and (3.) how much you’re willing/able to pay. Please let Kenn Hong or Celinda Crandall know today.

Men’s Retreat — Next Saturday
Hello! It is time once again to remind everyone of the upcoming Men’s Retreat on Feb 5, 2011. We will start around 9am at the L’Etete Church of Christ with registrations. We hope you will be able to promote this event among the men of your congregations in hopes to have as many people out as possible this year. The theme this year is “Keeping Our Focus During Difficult Times”. As we know, much of Eastern New Brunswick and Nova Scotia has been hit with disaster this year. Even if we escaped the floods and high winds we can still see how it affects so many homes.

The speakers this year will be myself (Giles Mullen) and my uncle from Nova Scotia, Avery Mullen. Some of you may remember Avery from past retreats. He is not trained as a speaker but has filled in many times at his home congregation at Southville, NS when the minister is away. He is no stranger to hardship and sickness yet continues to place his trust and faith in God for daily deliverance. The cost of registration will continue to be $20 which includes lunch and snacks. We will have a special offering again this year which will allow anyone who wishes to help with “missions” to give the amount they would like to give.

We would also ask that if any of the Churches would like to share about what is taking place within their congregations, missions, future plans, etc, we would love to schedule a bit of time to hear what God is doing through you. Please let us know so we can schedule enough time for this. If anyone would be interested in doing a special song or instrumental, we would love to have you share that with us as well.

Have a great day! Giles Mullen
