Couples Club – Happy Chinese New Year!
For All Married or Engaged Couples:
You’re invited to celebrate Chinese New Year with a catered meal on Saturday, Feb 5 at the church.
To make plans, we need to know (1.) if you’re interested, (2.) whether you would prefer traditional Chinese food (spicy chicken, duck, meatballs, fish, etc.) or Canadian Chinese food (garlic ribs, sweet and sour chicken, wonton soup, beef and broccoli, etc.), and (3.) how much you’re willing/able to pay. Please let Kenn Hong or Celinda Crandall know today.
Men’s Retreat — Next Saturday
Hello! It is time once again to remind everyone of the upcoming Men’s Retreat on Feb 5, 2011. We will start around 9am at the L’Etete Church of Christ with registrations. We hope you will be able to promote this event among the men of your congregations in hopes to have as many people out as possible this year. The theme this year is “Keeping Our Focus During Difficult Times”. As we know, much of Eastern New Brunswick and Nova Scotia has been hit with disaster this year. Even if we escaped the floods and high winds we can still see how it affects so many homes.
The speakers this year will be myself (Giles Mullen) and my uncle from Nova Scotia, Avery Mullen. Some of you may remember Avery from past retreats. He is not trained as a speaker but has filled in many times at his home congregation at Southville, NS when the minister is away. He is no stranger to hardship and sickness yet continues to place his trust and faith in God for daily deliverance. The cost of registration will continue to be $20 which includes lunch and snacks. We will have a special offering again this year which will allow anyone who wishes to help with “missions” to give the amount they would like to give.
We would also ask that if any of the Churches would like to share about what is taking place within their congregations, missions, future plans, etc, we would love to schedule a bit of time to hear what God is doing through you. Please let us know so we can schedule enough time for this. If anyone would be interested in doing a special song or instrumental, we would love to have you share that with us as well.
Have a great day! Giles Mullen
“COLOUR UP A STORM” ART CONTEST
Thank you for your entries for “Colour Up A Storm” Art Contest! All the entries will be displayed in our lobby sometime in February. The winning entry will be announced soon!
Request
To grace the cover of our church bulletin, as much as possible, we would like to use artwork and photography done by our own congregational members. We appreciate the different gifts and talents of our members and this is one way we can celebrate some of them. If you have “winter” photographs or artwork you would like to share in this way, kindly email them to Deborah Jones.

Our Sweetheart Sunday Worship Service
Do you want to give a special Valentine message to a person you love? Bring your “sweetheart” spouse, friend, sister, brother, parent, grandparent, neighbor, child, grandchild, etc. to share God’s love and the love of our whole congregation.
The perfect message of love is God’s Word from the one and only true God of this universe! See John 3:16
On Sunday morning, Feb 13 we will be viewing a slideshow presentation of valentines! So, please join us and select a photo of the person(s) you love and be a part of our video valentine presentation which will be shown during our morning worship service. Maybe you are a parent who wants to tell your children they are loved, a husband (trying to earn brownie points) who wants to tell his wife she is loved, a grandparent, friend… Photos can be hand delivered, or emailed to Adam at ahanson@nbnet.nb.ca, and must be received no later than Feb. 6 in order to be included in the presentation.
With the picture, please include a message to your sweetheart. The worship service will be followed by a Sweetheart Spaghetti Dinner (spaghetti and rolls provided by the church). If you want, you may bring a dessert to share. The spaghetti dinner will also celebrate a Baby Shower for Geoff and Andrea Pugh’s expected baby girl. They are in need of everyday items such as diapers, wipes, formula, or gift cards toward these items and a baby swing.
The Reading Corner
Have you taken time to stop by our church library lately? We are currently featuring books on physical, emotional, financial and spiritual health. You’re very welcome to stop by, browse and borrow a book or two. Why not bundle up and read on these cold, snowy days!
A Benefit Concert will be held at the Keswick Valley Memorial School on January 8th from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Proceeds will go to Samaritan’s Purse for flood victims in our area. The Gospel Way, Gerald Rushtin, Lawrence and Connie Dunnim, Sterling Peterson, Randy and Tammy Griffith and Brenda Lutz will be performing. Please pass this on to anyone who may be interested in contributing to this cause. For more information on the concert please speak to Tom Egers or visit www.burttscornerchurchofchrist.ca.
Samaritan’s Purse Canada is sending a Disaster Relief Unit to Zealand, New Brunswick, to help local emergency officials and residents clean-up after heavy rains caused extensive flooding in the community.
The Disaster Relief Unit – a specially equipped trailer – will arrive on Monday, Dec. 27 and be stationed at Burtts Corner Baptist Church. The unit will serve as a volunteer coordination center for Zealand, a town about 35 kilometers northwest of Fredericton. Samaritan’s Purse will work with the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee and local volunteers from the region to manage and provide clean-up and other recovery assistance to residents.
“Our first focus will be to send volunteers to those most in need – the elderly, the disabled, or those unable to clean up their homes on their own,” said Steve Joudry, the manager of Samaritan’s Purse operations in Zealand. “But we also want to be available to anyone who needs any help getting their homes back to normal.”
Anyone in the Zealand area requiring free clean-up assistance from Samaritan’s Purse can call 506-474-2401. More information is also available in the attached PDF.
On Sunday, May 30 we will be joined by 4 time Dove Award Winning Artist, Geoff Moore. Geoff also co-wrote numerous songs with Steven Curtis Chapman including the title track on Chapman’s 1992 Dove Award and Grammy winning release The Great Adventure.
Possessing little more than a deep, gravelly voice and a three-song demo produced by a childhood friend, Geoff left the comfort of his Michigan home and the security of the family business to pursue Nashville’s music industry. Twenty-two years and sixteen albums later Geoff Moore can look back now knowing he made the right choice, hearing God’s voice through the clamor of life.
‘When I first started making records, I soon discovered that being a recording artist gives you a platform. Through the years that platform has allowed me the privilege of, not only sharing my songs with a lot of people, but promoting causes I believe in.
Geoff will be leading our Sunday Morning Worship Service and will share about his work with Compassion Canada. Compassion has been the most significant partnership of my ministry. You may have heard me say that I believe if we are Christians, it is not if we help the poor, it is simply a question of how. I want you to know that I have seen the work of Compassion. I have met their employees and thousands of the children they help everyday.’
Invite your family and friends to what is sure to be a great morning of worship!
There will be a FREE men’s breakfast on Mar 20th, 2010 from 8:00 – 9:00 AM. Be sure to get there early and to come hungry.
The Burtts Corner Church of Christ recently initiated a program to welcome new residents to our community much like the “Welcome Wagon” in Fredericton.

If you own a business in the area and would like to be a part of this program or if you know someone who just moved into the community, please let us know.
